The interior design of commercial spaces poses the challenge of blending aesthetic appeal with practicality that facilitates daily operations. It takes an expert to conceptualize a design that seamlessly merges the two requirements to create a memorable space. In the featured project, we look at Candy Café, a snack bar/cafeteria with a theme inspired by surprise machine balls.
The café’s location in a region near several schools, kindergartens, playgrounds, and a neighborhood for families with young children meant it would ideally cater to families, particularly mothers. Therefore, the aim of the design by Host Designers, hospitality design professionals, was to create a fun, colorful space to attract children and yet have a refined and elegant feminine aesthetic to appeal to mothers.
One look at the café design immediately reflects fun with its walls and counters dotted with bright-colored surprise balls. In contrast, the peach-toned seating with elegant, curved backs adds a feminine touch to appeal to mothers.
A view from behind the counter reveals the unique curved cushioned upholstery of the seating along the wall. Along with the bright surprise balls on the wall, the peach tone adds contrast and calm to the visual, creating a sensory experience through the interaction of color and shapes.
The functional design goes beyond aesthetics with a practical layout, ensuring daily operations are carried out efficiently. Shelves behind the countertop offer space to display colorful candy and confectionery. The glass display in the corner adds a sense of spaciousness.
The layout divides the space into work and relaxation zones. The counter, with the till, coffee set up, menus, and a glass display, has a functional arrangement, allowing easy ordering, whether a to-go order or a leisure snack or coffee.
The layout behind the counter shows efficient use of space to accommodate everything the cafe needs to operate efficiently, from a till to a coffee station and a prep counter with a sink along the back wall.
With floor-to-ceiling glazing offering views of the street besides inviting natural light to add warmth to the interiors, the café offers a cozy environment where busy mothers can relax with a cup of coffee after dropping the children at school or catch up with friends before school ends.
It’s also the perfect place to bring kids for an after-school snack, guaranteed to excite them with colorful interiors, candy, and confectionary on display.
