Green, green, green are all my clothes… Wardrobes. And kitchens. And sofas! Green is a wonderful and versatile colour for living as it symbolizes nature and hope.

Green combines opposites and meanings of these two opposing colours. It contains the coldness of blue and the warmth of yellow. It has the active acumen, joy, intuition and activity of yellow and the reasonable detachment, passivity and intellect of blue.

Green can go in many directions, which is what makes this colour so wonderfully versatile. Fresh grass green in the kitchen or dining area looks bright, friendly and invigorating. Cool mint in the living room looks cool and stylish.

We have collected seven great ways to use green as an interior design colour.

Would you like to remodel or renovate your house?

We’ll give you advice right away — no strings attached.

1. The jungle look

In this open-plan kitchen-living room with a spacious dining area, green is used in a more muted way, but the photo wallpaper gives it a more direct connection to nature. It is then reflected in various accessories. This almost gives you the impression of eating in the jungle.

Green can look so different in the same room, even if the effect (freshness, naturalness) is similar.

2. Lime green dining room

When the first leaves sprout in spring and nature wakes up, we are surrounded by bright green. The colour of freshness and hope also makes us awake and hungry for the coming summer. A dining room with accent walls and accessories in light May green works just as well.

It wakes us up without putting us on alert. Perfect for a good start to the day with the family!

3. Green freshness kick in the kitchen

This modern kitchen has walls in fresh light green, wood and white. It is bright, inviting and young. The kitchen island leaves enough space to move around. This kitchen just screams: There is movement and life in here.

4. The cosy country kitchen in fir green

Dark fir green is used here. The effect is different, but just as inviting. This kitchen is grounded and wonderfully calming due to the high proportion of blue.

This kitchen is more suitable for cosy evenings with a cup of tea or good wine than for active mornings. Of course, both will happen here (as in the other one), that's inevitable. But the question you as the interior designer have to ask yourself is: what should I focus on?

5. The living room—an opulent dream in turquoise

This living room with bold turquoise walls makes a statement. Turquoise gives the illusion of space and enlarges any room. It can also be found in carpets and furniture. Here you have to make sure that the colours harmonize with each other!

The high proportion of blue makes turquoise calming, and in combination with brown, it appears even more grounded. The modern furniture takes away the old-fashioned note of the brown.

6. Or minimalist and cool in mint?

This living room with a large living area in mint has a cool and minimalistic feel. There is almost no yellow left here and the blue can have a stronger effect. This room has a relaxing and peaceful feel. To maintain this mood, bold accent colours should be avoided at all costs.

7. Dark grey-green in the bedroom

The bedroom is a personal retreat and place of relaxation. The dark green tone with a high proportion of grey creates a calming room that does not appear oppressive thanks to the light wood. Light curtains and bed linen provide a balance to the dark wall.

8. Pastel touches in the hallway

A little more daring, but all the more impressive, are these beautiful old building doors that have been painted a pastel green. They are a chic eye-catcher in a white hallway.

9. Light green for more cosiness

In this example, bright, invigorating and fresh green is brought into the bedroom easily and without any renovation. With plants and bed linen, spring moves in, even in winter.
